About
Bio
As an artist, as well as a craftsman, Fuchs’ work aims to blur the lines between Art and Craft, utilizing techniques and ideologies of both areas. Their work takes the conceptual emphasis and interpretive nature of fine art and combines it with the somatic nature and repetitive processes of Craft. Recent works explore the introspective nature of craft work and how they can be used to organize and process thoughts, as well as how craft construction can relate to the construction of the self. Working with textiles, Fuchs renders intangible concepts into tangible objects.
Statement
As a memoir constructed through fiber and unconventional materials, the garments and structural forms I create are a wearable/displayable account of identity and my emotions, a way to understand myself and what goes through my head a little better. Aided by the repetitive and meditative nature of craft, I work to organize and process my thoughts. Using maximalist and camp aesthetics, I emulate the indecipherability of my thoughts. I want to create a sense of curiosity. The chaos created by these aesthetics draws viewers in to get a closer look. Craft must be impeccable, while maintaining aesthetics of the handmade. Focus on mastery of craft creates an anchor with which the viewer can ground themselves within the visual abundance.
